About Jack 

 

Jack Mitchell is an award-winning composer, songwriter, music director, producer, and arranger for children's media and musical theatre based in Brooklyn, NY.

Current children's media projects include original songs and scoring for the first ever Dr. Seuss podcast, "The Cat in the Hat Cast"(Wondery/Seuss Enterprises, 2024 Ambie Award Nominee for "Best Original Score and Music Supervision"), theme songs and original music for "Popcorn Brainstorm"(Netflix/Realm) and "The Plate Show" (WNET/PRX), an original score for the first ever Looney Tunes Podcast, "Bugs and Daffy's Thanksgiving Road Trip"(streaming on HBO Max), 5+ seasons and counting of arrangements, songs, and scoring for  The Story Pirates Podcast , winner of the 2022 and 2020 Webby and iHeartRadio awards for Best Kids and Family Podcast, music arrangements and production for "Sesame Street", and original scores for SPTV (PBS) and "Sleep Squad"an interactive streaming theatrical experience starring Tony Nominee, Lilli Cooper. Additional projects include live scoring for Pinna Audio's improv musical podcast, "Don't Break The Rules" and an in-development musical commission for CO/LAB Theatre Group.

Together with beloved Washington Post satirist Alexandra Petri, Jack is developing a new musical comedy entitled, THE WRONG AMERICAN!", adapted from P.G Wodehouse's classic farce,"A Damsel in Distress". The show received a reading at Williamstown Theatre Festival and is currently in development. Jack was commissioned by The Washington Post to write nine new "Thanksgiving Songs" with Petri for this article, which gained national notoriety and praise from the likes of Senator Amy Klobuchar.

 

Jack's new family musical, "WHO'S AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD BOOK?"(co-written with Maryanne Melloan Woods), based on the celebrated children's book by Lauren Child, was recently named a finalist for The Growing Stage's New Play Award and the Anna Zornio Children's Theatre Award. Jack co-wrote the popular children's musical, THE CLAW (from Beat by Beat Press), which debuted in 2021 and has already been performed all over the world and licensed for over 100 productions.

Additional TYA credits include STONE SOUP: THE MUSICAL commissioned by Parkway School for the Arts.

Jack's sold-out concert of original music at The Green Room 42 was featured on playbill.com and his music has been seen and heard nationally on NPR, PBS, ME-TV, and at The Foundation for New American Musicals in LA, The Utah Symphony, Lincoln Center, and The Kennedy Center. Jack's songs can also be heard regularly on Sirius XM Kids Place Live, where his song "Humming" was one of the most played songs of 2021. 

Jack's songs have been recorded by venerable Broadway stars including Mandy Gonzales, James Monroe Iglehart, Erika Henningsen, Nick Blaemire, Allan K. Washington, Krysta Rodriguez, and more. As a musical director, Jack has worked with stars including Amanda Seyfried, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Laura Benanti, Thomas Sadoski, Ashley Park, and many more. 

 

Jack is a proud graduate of Northwestern University, a member of the Dramatist Guild and the advanced class of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, and was the Director/MD of the Late-Night Cabaret at Williamstown Theatre Festival. Jack is represented by Michael Moore Agency.
